For Survival: Entwined Native American and the Enslaved Population of Monmouth County

Video screening. This fascinating story is delivered in the oral history tradition by Claire Garland (Cherokee) and Norris Branham (Leni Lenape) of their lineage and heritage, which is not always told or heard often enough. The debut of this documentary short focuses on Native American people and the African enslaved population of Monmouth County that dates back to the 1600’s. This film comes on the heels of Rick Geffken’s discussion on “Stories of Slavery in New Jersey,” which authenticates the intermixing of these two cultures and traditions. Not to be missed. The film will be followed by a discussion with invited guests from the film. Log onto our website for more information www.tthomasfortuneculturalcenter.org
